SWMM is a complete distributed, physically based dynamic rainfall-runoff simulation model primarily for urban areas. As input hydrological data it used rainfall events and was able to simulate pollutant transport behavior in the urban basin, from overland flow to the pipe networks and conduits taking into account evapotranspiration and exchanges with aquifers. As a distributed model, all the parameters are the function of time and space. Typical applications of SWMM can be as follows: • Designing and sizing of drainage system components for flood control, • Combine sewer design and control, overflows, and design, • Controlling water quality and sediment transportation, • Evaluating different BMP-s and LID infrastructure. SWMM can be used as a planning or design model. The planning model is used to comprehensively solve the issues of runoff and estimate the cost-effectiveness of the possibility of improvements. Low data requirements and low mathematical complexity give an opportunity to make long time (months or years) or continuous simulations, design model can be used to determine hydrological events that are of special interest for design purposes, for example, modeling a single rain event, operation model, models can be used to rain events in real-time and gives an opportunity to online decision making. For our research, we used a design model to analyze an urban catchment (Fene, Spain), where different rain events were studied and analyzed.
