Annotation:
The rapid diversification of life at the beginning of the Phanerozoic Eon is called the Cambrian Explosion. In the Cambrian, sponges, ctenophores, cnidarians, all kinds of worms, arthropods, mollusks, brachiopods, echinoderms, hemichordates and chordates appear. practically all major animal phyla started appearing in the fossil record and all this happened in just a few million years. The Cambrian explosion had such an effect and happened so quickly that it is often called the “evolutionary Big Bang” - by analogy with the very Big Bang in which the Universe was born. No one knows the exact reason, but there are a few plausible theories that we'll explore in this report.
